Naked before each other

“There are . . . things too wonderful for me, . . . that I cannot understand . . . . the way of a man with a virgin. (Proverbs 30:19)

Under the weight of a cross that born heavily upon him, Jesus made his way to Golgotha. Stripped of his garments he hung naked and exposed, lifted high for the world to see his nakedness. In those moments, “darkness came over all the land”, “And Jesus cried out again in a loud voice, He yielded up His spirit. And behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom . . . . (Luke 27:50-51)

At the death of Jesus as his body hung on the cross exposed, the Most Holy Place was also exposed. Both were left naked. God was unveiled. This veil that once protected us from the throne room of God and judgement could now be lifted because of the work and worth of Jesus. Not only was God unveiled, in love, he longs to be unveiled. . .  and was wiling to lay down his life as a loving husband, so we could run into the his throne room of grace.

Paul writing to the church in Corinthian writes about another veil,

“Since we have such a hope, we are very bold, not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face so that the Israelites might not gaze at the outcome of what was being brought to an end. But their minds were hardened. For to this day, when they read the old covenant, that same veil remains unlifted, because only through Christ is it taken away. es, to this day whenever Moses is read a veil lies over their hearts. But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.

All of us like Adam and Eve desire to shrink back and hide, to cover our nakedness. We don’t want to be exposed. And so there is a second veil.
